ThyroSpot TSH Assay Written Instructions

The i-calQ ThyroSpot TSH assay is used to determine the amount of Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) in human blood serum. The assay has been used to accurately and reliably measure the TSH in serum.

TSH serum levels are a sensitive indication of thyroid disease. The thyroid gland and its associated hormones are responsible controlling the metabolism. Thyroid health is also dependent on iodine intake.

This assay is a single-use, disposable immunoassay that is read with a smartphone-based image analysis algorithm. The assay can be used to screen for congenital and acquired primary hypothyroidism, monitor the treatment of hypothyroidism, and assess a population’s iodine intake.

The TSH assay utilizes affinity chromatography. Antibodies are developed with a high affinity for particles of TSH, these antibodies grab onto the TSH. These antibodies adhered to TSH produce a visible signal. The intensity of this signal correlates with the amount of TSH present in the serum sample.

The smartphone camera detects the visual signal described above and quantifies the amount of TSH based on the intensity of the signal. The lightbox provides controlled and defined illumination, which helps produce the most accurate results. The smartphone application is easy to use and does not require internet connection. Results can be transferred from the smartphone to the computer.
